IHC suspends single bench's verdict regarding Ramazan transmission

The court further ordered the television channels to take steps considering the sanctity of Ramazan

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday suspended single bench’s verdict pertaining to Ramazan transmission.

A two member divisional bench of the IHC comprising Justice Amir Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani was condcuting hearing the case.

During the proceedings, the court asserted that Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has the authority over television channels to get the code of conduct implemented, therefore, the court can not play a role of regulatory authority.

The court suspended the ruling to halt advertisements before Maghrib Azan and also declared the order of broadcasting ‘Darood sharif’, prayers for national sovereignty and Interior Ministry’s committee to oversee implementation of orders as null and void.

The court further ordered the television channels to take steps considering the sanctity of Ramazan.

Earlier, private TV channels and Pakistan Broadcasting Association (PBA) had challeneged Jusice Shoukat Aziz Sadiqi’s judgement.
